The Internet began as a Network of Networks built by researchers, academics and government scientists. This nascent internet ran through fixed cables and was the First Generation.
Second Generation
The Second Generation of the internet is all around us now—in our pockets, our living rooms, our cars. Powered by tens of thousands of apps and a few of the richest, most powerful companies in the world. We can type a few words and know or see anything on a screen in the blink of an eye.
Third Generation
The Third Generation (Web3) is being built on a foundation of Decentralization where there are no massive corporate gatekeepers and people own their own Identities, Data and Virtual Goods. This emerging internet will empower individuals to personally profit from their data, virtual belongings, financial transactions and creativity through Blockchain, NFTs and Decentralized Finance. A lot of these interactions will be available between people around the world and take place in interconnected virtual environments like multi-player games--some in Virtual or Augmented Reality. This can be described as the Metaverse.
